What is Green Research?
Research is not done in isolation. It can and does have an environmental impact. We acknowledge that conflict, displacement, and disaster contexts can have long-lasting consequences on the environment, so can our research efforts in and off the field.
We genuinely care about the effect our work has on our planet and do our best to mitigate our carbon footprint.
For Scruples, Green Research is not a complimentary policy. It constitutes the main pillar we build our contributions on. We are concerned about the unintended consequences of our research and do our best to mitigate the impact of our work on the environment.
Our Green Research Policy guides us on two levels:
Mandate level
On mandate level, we ensure the integration of a nuanced environmental perspective into our research work. This means we collect relevant data, analyze distinct outcomes, and eagerly accommodate discussions that involve the environment.
We steer our research efforts in such a way that they shed light on previously untouched aspects of crises, and their acute or ongoing impacts on the environment. Plus, we do not hesitate to go the extra mile to tap into uncovered angles about climate justice.
Operational level
On an operational level, we are committed to promoting sustainable practices and reducing environmental impact. Our commitment to Green Research encompasses all aspects of our operations, from energy consumption to waste management.
We adopt best practices that minimize our carbon footprint and help protect the environment. Scruples’ Green Research Policy is designed to guide all our activities toward ensuring the full adaptation and development of environmentally sustainable practices.
1.Energy Efficiency
Scruples adopts a 100% remote work modality that aims to save energy and reduce carbon footprint. All Scruples team members work from home and use Energy Star-certified equipment that reduces energy consumption. We regularly encourage colleagues to power off their devices when not in use, unplug chargers from sockets, and switch off lights in unoccupied spaces.
2.Travel Reduction
We implement locally based data collection activities to minimize the need for unnecessary travel. If travel is required, we prioritize carbon-neutral tickets and electric cars, where applicable. We also reduce the number of trips by encouraging the use of virtual meetings and video conferencing.
3.Digital Impact Reduction
We have a zero-paper policy to reduce our use of paper and encourage digital document management. Our servers and data storage devices are energy-efficient and green-certified. Our website has an eco-friendly design and is hosted by a green hosting service.
4.Recycling and Waste Management
For our research, we utilize recyclable materials and technological equipment. We purchase locally made goods and donate 5% of the proceeds to reforestation and climate change actors from each assignment we accomplish.
5.Collaboration with Environmental Organizations
We collaborate with local environmental organizations to support their initiatives that align with our goal of mitigating the effects of climate change. We also encourage our colleagues to participate in activities that promote environmental conservation, such as tree planting and beach clean-ups.
Scruples’ Green Research policy is designed to promote sustainable practices and reduce our environmental impact. We aim to adopt best practices that will minimize our carbon footprint and help protect the environment. We encourage our colleagues to actively participate in achieving our environmental goals and to support our initiatives toward promoting a greener future.
